AdBlue is a liquid urea solution used in passenger cars and commercial vehicles with a diesel engine and equipped selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system to achieve a reduction of nitrogen oxides during fuel combustion. The AdBlue is injected into an SCR catalyst, where it reacts with pollutants such as nitrogen oxide, converting them almost completely into water vapor and harmless nitrogen molecules. This advantage is mainly used in commercial vehicles such as trucks, but also in aeronautical applications, because they produce a considerable amount of pollutants, which is significantly reduced by the consumption of AdBlue, thus contributing to sustainability. AdBlue is not a fuel, however, but an additional operating material that must be replenished separately.
