Stainless steel fuel tanks for machinery, equipment and vehicle technology

Stainless steel fuel tanks are used to store fuels such as gasoline, diesel or gas. Fuel tanks installed in machinery, equipment or vehicle technology are connected to the combustion chamber. They are a fundamental part of the fuel supply system. Stainless steel fuel tanks have to comply with legal regulations and meet many other requirements.

In everyday use, stainless steel fuel tanks are regularly subjected to mechanical forces, vibrations and temperature fluctuations. The demands on their strength are additionally increased by complex designs to maximize the filling volume.

We only produce individual solutions for orders of at least 50 pieces

Lightweight stainless steel fuel tanks from NovaNox®.

Unlike ordinary fuel tanks, lightweight NovaNox® fuel tanks are made of first-class thin stainless steel sheet. This special property results in enormous weight savings, especially in automotive and aerospace applications. The weight reduction reduces fuel consumption and lowers the associated operating costs.

Although lightweight stainless steel fuel tanks are made of thin sheet, they have high strength. This quality feature is due to our specially performed welding process design.

Manufacturing process

Manual welding
As a specialist welding company, we have acquired know-how in welding technology over many years, which our trained personnel implement professionally. We use automated welding processes and also manufacture hand-welded stainless steel fuel tanks. Especially for one-offs or small to medium series, the manual welding process is suitable as a cost-effective alternative with fast turnaround times. The hand-welded stainless steel fuel tanks are manufactured on modern welding tables. Our in-house fixture construction ensures dimensional accuracy and permanent fulfillment of repeatability even with high tolerances.

Automated welding
The automated welding process is carried out using state-of-the-art welding robots. This automated manufacturing process enables very fast and efficient production. These are ideal conditions for the cost-effective production of high requirements with consistent quality. The automated welding process is the most precise welding method. As a result, even very complex stainless steel fuel tanks with high tolerance requirements can be realized.

Corrosion protection and finishes for stainless steel fuel tanks

Surface treatments provide durability, safety and a more pleasing yet functional appearance. A corrosion-free, resilient and durable surface over time supports the longevity of stainless steel fuel tanks. It also gives the stainless steel fuel tanks an individual touch. Thanks to our own powder coating and painting facility, we can apply surface finishes in all RAL colors quickly and in high quality. For optimum corrosion protection, we offer heat-resistant paints, powder coatings as well as pickling and passivation.

Services

Already in early development phases, we elicit, among other things, the structural strength, the fatigue strength and the material efficiency of your concept through FEM calculations. This gives you more security in test phases and also after your product has been put into operation by your customers.

We digitally illustrate the consequences of different mechanical, thermal and electrical loads. For this purpose, we use linear and non-linear structural-mechanical considerations. You benefit from time and cost savings. This is because we can examine the consequences of the different influences on the entire product or component for geometries of any complexity before we build prototypes.

The results of this calculation are also useful for you as proof for technical approvals, for product liability and production releases.

NovaNox® FEM calculations are performed analytically according to general and international standards. This procedure ensures comparability and reliable results. In detail we do for you

  • linear and non-linear structural mechanics calculations
  • Analysis of deformations, stiffnesses and stability
  • Consideration of natural vibrations
  • Transient structural analysis
  • Collision analyses
  • Temperature field calculation (thermal-stationary or thermal-transient)
  • CAE-supported fatigue analysis with nCode

You will receive technical drawings from us in 2D (in dxf, dwg and pdf formats) and in 3D (in step format). Depending on your needs, we offer single part drawings, assembly drawings, general drawings or assembly drawings. This includes detailed technical documentation for review. This gives you the opportunity to make adjustments or add further ideas before production begins. At the start of production, you can be sure that everything will fit perfectly and be implemented correctly.

Thanks to the comprehensive technical drawings and detailed documentation, you achieve precise communication throughout your entire development and production process chain. You thus meet the different information needs of each stage and increase efficiency.

We want to achieve a result in the prototype phase that is as close as possible to the pilot series. In this way, we achieve the best possible results and keep to both your schedule and your budget. To achieve this goal, we work closely with you in the development, planning and design of the construction, material and manufacturing process.

Finally, we evaluate the results of the FAI and fine-tune the manufacturing process for maximum efficiency and profitability. In doing so, we support you in significantly shortening the time-to-market and successfully launching series production as planned. This means more security for you and effective use of your project budget.

When you transfer responsibility for the entire process from requirements planning to logistical handling to us, you ensure optimum component supply for series production. We provide you with a total of 1,200 square meters of storage space as a consignment warehouse for your uninterrupted production processes. On the one hand, this reduces your costs compared to your own storage capacities. On the other hand, you produce more cost-effectively in larger batch sizes.

Your stainless steel fuel tanks are delivered from the consignment warehouse on schedule and flexibly on demand. Your current logistics processes are fully integrated. This is how easy it is to create an optimal solution for a secure component supply with stainless steel fuel tanks from NovaNox® throughout the whole year.

Quality management

In order for your stainless steel fuel tanks to meet their specific requirements, using the appropriate welding process is an essential prerequisite. This decision is made during the welding process planning. The optimal welding process makes a decisive contribution to the safety and stability of your stainless steel fuel tanks.

The most effective sequence of welding operations is also determined and specified during welding process planning. The optimum welding sequence ensures more efficient production processes. But it also plays a considerable role in extending the service life and ensuring the reliable tightness of your stainless steel fuel tanks.

The type marking on the stainless steel fuel tank is used for easy traceability back to its source. Every step from manufacture to the last application can be traced in detail over the entire product life, giving you additional security.

Depending on the material design and load of your stainless steel fuel tanks, there are various type marking designs available:

  • Laser engraving
  • Welded metal plates with laser engraving
  • Self-adhesive metal plates with laser engraving
  • Self-adhesive plastic plates with specific imprint and silicone coating for external protection

You get your personal identification as an integrated solution for a constant traceability of your stainless steel fuel tanks. The individual identification is created from symbols, numbers or letters. This enables clear route and process reconstruction at any time.

The leak test as a quality management process ensures that your stainless steel fuel tanks remain absolutely leak-proof even in continuous use and under extreme conditions. For your additional assurance, we are happy to provide the leak test for each delivery as a written declaration of conformity. You can easily include this NovaNox® test certificate in your overall documentation. We carry out these leak tests for you:

  • A 100% test with air underwater is performed in our dedicated test basin, meeting regulations such as ECE R34 or 70/21/EEC
  • Pressure test
  • Leak test by means of red or fluorescent dyes
  • Ultrasonic testing

Adequate quality assurance in production is only possible with precise documentation of the production processes. Because this is how you ensure the high quality of your products. A complete record of the processes also reveals cost-cutting potential because defects and quality differences can be detected and corrected in good time. This pays off especially in large projects.

Accurately documented, traceable processes free up extra time and personnel resources. We offer you this comprehensive documentation for quality management:

  • Initial sample inspection report according to VDA 2, EN 9102
  • Factory certificates 3.1 and 2.2 according to EN 10204
  • Dimensional report by 3D measuring technique (Faro measuring arm)
  • Declaration of conformity for pressure tests

All our certificates can be integrated into your overall documentation in an uncomplicated and time-saving manner.
