Hydraulic tanks for machinery, equipment and automotive engineering

Hydraulic tanks are integrated into the hydraulic system in machinery, equipment and in a wide range of vehicles, such as cars, trucks or agricultural machinery. Hydraulic systems are used to transmit power, energy and signals. The system works with a fluid, which is usually hydraulic oil. The hydraulic tank itself is a closed container. It is connected to the surrounding air via bleed valves. This connection is necessary because it allows pressure equalization at all times. Without this connection, the returning oil would create an overpressure, and leaking oil would create a negative pressure. The hydraulic reservoir is filled with the appropriate hydraulic oil via closable openings. In the process, the oil first flows through a shut-off valve and then through a check valve. After these two stations, the hydraulic oil is pressurized to the required operating pressure. This allows the hydraulic oil to flow effortlessly through a closed system. Depending on the size of the hydraulic system, coolers, sight glasses or electronic level sensors, safety valves, filters or sensors for quality monitoring are used.

In addition to legal guidelines, fluid tanks must meet a wide range of requirements. In daily use, hydraulic tanks are constantly exposed to mechanical loads, vibrations and temperature fluctuations. The strength requirements are also further increased by complex geometries for maximum filling volume. In addition, NovaNox® hydraulic tanks offer protection against corrosion problems, optional integrated baffles and labyrinths, and the prevention of fatigue at the welds.

Cleaning and surface treatment of hydraulic tanks

Ensuring the cleanliness of your individual NovaNox® hydraulic reservoir is our top priority. The reservoirs are cleaned mechanically and with special adhesive cloths. After the leak test, the reservoir is vacuumed, shaken and tapped again. Finally, it can be rinsed out according to the customer's wishes, but this is not recommended, as particles can be pressed into crevices during rinsing.

Furthermore, NovaNox® can perform the following surface treatments:
+ Powder coating
+ Pickling and passivation
+ Priming
+ Painting
+ Salt spray test
+ Sandblasting
+ Other surface treatment after customer consultation

Steel hydraulic tanks

The NovaNox® steel hydraulic reservoirs are installed in the hydraulic system of machines, equipment or vehicles, such as in trucks or tractors. The hydraulic systems handle the power, energy and signal transmissions. In most cases, hydraulics are operated with a fluid, hydraulic oil. Accordingly, NovaNox® hydraulic tanks store the required hydraulic oil. As they are exposed to mechanical stresses, vibrations and the fluctuating temperatures on a daily basis, they have to meet a variety of requirements.

Through our years of tank expertise, we have developed modern manufacturing capabilities that make it possible to adapt NovaNox® steel hydraulic tanks to any installation situation. This also includes making effective use of particularly tight installation spaces and ensuring that the tank's maximum filling volume is utilized. As a system supplier, we provide you with ready-to-install system solutions. This also includes the respective components, such as tank caps, gauges, sensors or fuel filters. As part of this component procurement, we take care of deadline monitoring, quality control and final assembly, so that the accuracy of fit is increased to a maximum.

Stainless steel hydraulic tanks

Stainless steel hydraulic oil reservoirs from NovaNox® are part of the hydraulic system of machines, equipment and vehicles. Hydraulic systems are responsible for the transmission of energy, power and signals. Since hydraulic systems are normally operated with hydraulic oil, the tanks are an elementary component. They store the hydraulic oil and dispense it when required. In daily use, NovaNox® stainless steel hydraulic tanks are exposed to mechanical stresses, vibrations and temperature differences and must therefore meet a wide range of requirements.

In the past, thanks to our tank expertise, we have developed modern manufacturing capabilities that allow stainless steel hydraulic tanks to be adapted to any installation situation. It does not matter whether simple or complex designs are required. These manufacturing possibilities enable us to effectively utilize even particularly narrow installation spaces and additionally to increase the volume of the tanks to a maximum. Components are also part of our ready-to-install system solutions. Tank caps, gauges, sensors as well as fuel filters are part of our product range and can be installed directly. To make the procurement process as convenient as possible, we take care of deadline monitoring, quality control and final assembly. By taking over these processes, we can also increase the accuracy of fit to a maximum and minimize the final assembly time.

Aluminum hydraulic tanks

NovaNox® aluminum hydraulic tanks are an elementary component in the hydraulic systems of machines, plants and vehicles. The hydraulic systems namely take over the power, energy and signal transmissions and are mostly operated with hydraulic oil. In these systems, the aluminum fluid tanks act as a bearing and extraction point. Due to the mechanical stresses, vibrations and fluctuating temperatures that tanks must withstand on a daily basis, they must meet a variety of requirements.

Through our expertise in tanks & accessories, we have developed modern manufacturing capabilities that allow us to easily respond to any installation situation. It does not matter whether a simple or more complex variant is required. Our goal is always to make effective use of even complex installation spaces and to exploit the maximum filling volume of our tanks. As a system supplier, we cover all tier levels, so that we can also supply the components for the tank technology, if required. You receive your ready-to-install system solution with tank cap, gauges, sensors or fuel filters. Within the scope of this component procurement, we take over the deadline monitoring, quality control and final assembly in order to increase the fitting accuracy to a maximum. At the same time, the assembly time of the final assembly is reduced to a minimum.

Lightweight tanks

In addition to the standard variants of hydraulic tanks, we have specialized in special lightweight tanks. Here, the tank is provided with a high-quality and very thin layer of sheet steel or aluminum. This allows the weight to be significantly reduced, which is particularly important for automotive and aerospace applications. These high weight savings in fact reduce fuel consumption, which at the same time ensures savings in operating costs.

Despite this special lightweight construction, the NovaNox® hydraulic oil tanks do not lose stability. Our own welding process planning is responsible for this.

Services

Even in the initial development phases, we use the finite element method (FEM) to determine the physical behavior of your component. This includes, for example, the structural strength, fatigue strength and material efficiency of your concept. These extremely accurate calculations ensure that you are on the safe side during the test phase, as well as after commissioning by your customer. In detail, the FEM calculations are about the representation of the consequences of various mechanical, temperature-related and electrical loads. This means that even before a prototype is created, the effects of various influencing factors are examined. Our calculations can be applied to both simple and complex geometries.

Subsequently, the results of these considerations and calculations provide you with evidence for technical approvals, for product liability or production releases.

The analytical FEM calculations are performed according to general and international standards, which guarantees comparability and reliable results. We perform the following calculations for you:

  • Linear and non-linear structural mechanics calculations
  • Analysis of deformations, stiffnesses and stability
  • Consideration of natural vibrations
  • Transient structural analysis
  • Collision analysis
  • Temperature field calculation (thermal-stationary or thermal-transient)
  • Computer-aided engineering (CAE) supported fatigue analysis with nCode

During the design creation and prototype phase, we will provide you with technical drawings in 2D (in dxf, dwg and pdf formats) and in 3D (in step format). We are also happy to produce individual part drawings, assembly drawings, general drawings or assembly drawings for you as required. You will also receive detailed technical documentation for review. This allows you to make corrections or add individual requests before the start of production.

Thanks to this comprehensive creation of technical drawings and documentation, communication across your complete development and manufacturing process chain functions efficiently and transparently.

Our always overriding goal is to deliver a close-to-production result at an early stage. Therefore, we strive to achieve this goal already in the prototype phase, so that the best results can be achieved and your time and cost planning is met. In order to achieve this goal as quickly as possible, we work intensively and closely with our customers during the development, project planning and definition of the design, material and production process.

Finally, the analysis of the results of the First Article Inspection (FAI) follows. This refers to the results of the technical drawings and their implementation in practice. In order to guarantee the highest efficiency and economy, we refine the production process together with you. In this way, we ensure a scheduled and successful start to series production and at the same time protect your project budget.
