Stainless steel combi tanks for machines, plants and vehicle technology

Stainless steel combination tanks usually have two chambers. The chambers separate different liquids, e.g. fuels. Combi tanks are used, for example, for the removal and storage of diesel and hydraulic oil in machines, plants and vehicle technology (vehicles). This combination in one tank unit is particularly suitable for tight spaces. Combi tanks made of stainless steel have to meet legal requirements as well as several demands in daily use.

Stainless steel combi tanks are constantly exposed to mechanical forces, vibrations and temperature fluctuations. Additional challenges for stability are posed by complex geometries to maximize the filling volume.

We only produce individual solutions for orders of at least 50 pieces

Lightweight stainless steel combi tanks from NovaNox®.

Compared to conventional stainless steel combi tanks, lightweight NovaNox® combi tanks are made of high-quality thin stainless steel sheet. This characteristic is particularly interesting in automotive and aerospace applications because of the enormous weight savings. The weight reductions reduce fuel consumption and the operating costs derived from it.

Even in lightweight construction, our stainless steel combination tanks made with thin sheet enjoy high strength. This quality feature is guaranteed by our in-house welding process planning.

Manufacturing process

Manual welding
The qualified personnel in our welding store utilize our many years of expertise in welding technology. In addition to the automated welding process, we also manufacture hand-welded stainless steel combination tanks. The manual welding process is particularly profitable for custom-made products as well as small and medium-sized series as a cost-effective option with short lead times. The hand-welded stainless steel combination tanks are manufactured on modern welding tables. Our own fixture construction ensures dimensional accuracy and permanently fulfills repeatability even with high tolerances.

Automated welding
The automated welding process is carried out with state-of-the-art welding robots. This enables us to achieve very fast and effective production with our automated production process. This is of particular benefit to high demands that need to be produced in a consistent quality at a low cost. The automated welding process is the method of welding with the highest precision. As a result, even very complex stainless steel combi tanks with high tolerance requirements can be manufactured.

Corrosion protection and finishes for stainless steel combi tanks

Surface treatments are essential for the durability, safety and appearance of stainless steel combi tanks. A durable, corrosion-free, protective and resistant surface extends the service life of the stainless steel combi tanks and enhances their visual appearance. Our own powder coating and painting facility enables the implementation of surfaces in all RAL colors quickly and in high quality. We achieve optimum corrosion protection through heat-resistant paints, powder coatings as well as pickling and passivation.

Services

In order to keep you on the safe side during tests and also after your customers have put your product into operation, we use FEM calculations to look at the structural strength, vibration resistance and material efficiency of your design, among other things, in the early development phases. In doing so, we digitally show you the effects of various mechanical, thermal and electrical loads using linear and non-linear structural-mechanical calculations. This is advantageous because it allows us to analyze the consequences of the various influences on the entire product or component for different, even complex, construction methods before we build prototypes.

The results of these investigations are then available to you as evidence for technical approvals, for product liability and production releases.

FEM calculations by NovaNox are performed analytically according to general and international standards. Thus, the procedures and results are comparable and reliable. In detail we do for you

  • linear and non-linear structural mechanics calculations
  • Analysis of deformations, stiffnesses and stability
  • Consideration of natural vibrations
  • Transient structural analysis
  • Collision analyses
  • Temperature field calculation (thermal-stationary or thermal-transient)
  • CAE-supported fatigue analysis with nCode

We create technical drawings in 2D (in dxf, dwg and pdf formats) and in 3D (in step format). Depending on your needs, you will receive individual part drawings, assembly drawings, overall drawings or assembly drawings. In any case, this includes detailed technical documentation for verification. On this basis, you can make adjustments and add special details before production. In this way, you can be on the safe side when the production line starts rolling.

You can be sure that everything will fit perfectly and be implemented without any defects. With this range of technical drawings and comprehensive documentation, communication throughout your entire development and production process chain is precise and efficient. You provide each stage of the process with exactly the information it needs.

In order to achieve a result as close to series production as possible already in the prototype phase, we cooperate closely with you in the development, planning and selection of the design, material and manufacturing process. This ensures optimal results and compliance with your time and cost planning.

For the final finish, we analyze the FAI results and adjust the manufacturing process for the highest possible efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This includes significantly shortening the time-to-market and successfully launching series production on schedule. In this way, we take your project budget into account and increase your security.

We take over the complete process for you, from demand planning to logistical handling. For this purpose, we provide you with a total of 1,200 square meters of storage space as a consignment warehouse to ensure uninterrupted production processes. This means that you have lower costs compared to your own storage capacities and can produce more cost-effectively thanks to larger batch sizes.

This provides you with an optimal component supply for your series production. Your stainless steel combination tanks are delivered on demand from the consignment warehouse on schedule. We fully integrate your existing logistics processes. Your flexible component supply with stainless steel combi tanks from NovaNox® is secured for the whole year.

Quality management

Welding process planning is the starting point for determining the most appropriate welding process for the specific requirements of your stainless steel combi tanks. The right process influences the safety and stability of your stainless steel combi tanks.

In the welding process planning, we also determine the welding sequence. The sequence of welding operations helps determine the efficiency of your manufacturing operations and also promotes a longer service life and safe leak tightness of your stainless steel Combitanks.

Thanks to the type identification, each stainless steel combi tank can be easily traced back to its origin. Every detail of the entire product life cycle from manufacture to the last application can be precisely traced. This proof gives you additional security.

Depending on the material and load of your stainless steel combination tanks, different variants of type markings are possible:

  • Laser engraving
  • Welded metal plates with laser engraving
  • Self-adhesive metal plates with laser engraving
  • Self-adhesive plastic plates with specific imprint and silicone coating for external protection

Symbols, numbers or letters are integrated into your stainless steel combi tanks as individual identification for clear route and process reconstruction.

The leak test as a process from the quality management area ensures that your stainless steel combination tanks remain absolutely leak-proof even in continuous operation and under extreme conditions. As an additional safeguard, we are happy to provide you with the leak test for each delivery as a written declaration of conformity. You can quickly and easily integrate this NovaNox® test certificate into your overall documentation. We carry out these leak tests for you:

  • Following ECE R34 or 70/21/EEC regulation, we conduct a 100% test with air underwater in our proprietary test basin
  • Pressure test
  • Leak test by means of red or fluorescent dyes
  • Ultrasonic testing

Precise documentation of production processes is essential for quality assurance in manufacturing. Because it ensures the high quality of your products.  Complete documentation also shows enormous cost-cutting potential, especially in large projects. This is because errors and quality deviations are detected at an early stage and can be eliminated.

Precisely documented, reproducible processes free up additional time and personnel resources. We offer you this comprehensive documentation for quality management:

  • Initial sample inspection report according to VDA 2, EN 9102
  • Factory certificates 3.1 and 2.2 according to EN 10204
  • Dimensional report by 3D measuring technique (Faro measuring arm)
  • Declaration of conformity for pressure tests

All our documents can be quickly and easily incorporated into your overall documentation.

We would be happy to advise you on your individual solution. Make an appointment now.
