Sustainable textile insulation from NovaNox®

By receiving the award from the Alliance for Sustainability, NovaNox® has already impressively demonstrated that sustainability plays an important role for us. Now a further step has been taken towards a more environmentally friendly future.

As a further improvement and expansion of the product variety of NovaNox GmbH & Co. KG, sustainable and environmentally friendly heat-insulating textile insulations have been added to the range. The technical insulations are manufactured free of calcium, sodium and potassium, making them kinder to the environment and people. The thermal insulations are available in classic green to represent this or optionally in your company colors.

Why calcium-, sodium- and potassium-free production?

Conventional insulating materials and insulations contain alkaline earth or alkaline metals, such as calcium oxide (CaO), sodium oxide (Na²O) or potassium oxide (K²O). The material also consists of up to 40% of these oxides. These insulations are usually located directly on motors or vulnerable cables that contain chromium-containing compounds as stainless steel components. The oxides react with the chromium-containing compounds at higher temperatures. For example, calcium oxide already reacts at a temperature of 300°C. During the reaction, the chromium (III) compounds "highly oxidize" to form chromium (IV) compounds, the so-called chromates. In this example, the calcium oxide reacts to form calcium chromate (CaCrO4). Once the process has started, it is difficult to reverse. The compound only volatilizes at more than 800°C. The chromium content of the components and the calcium oxide content of the insulating materials determine how many chromates are released.

As a result, the heavy metal compounds are released during maintenance work. They are fundamentally dangerous for humans as they can contain carcinogenic and mutagenic substances. They also contain particularly environmentally hazardous substances that must not be allowed to enter the groundwater under any circumstances. Consequently, the textile insulations may only be processed with complete protective equipment and must be disposed of professionally and at high cost as hazardous waste after use.

What is special about NovaNox® textile insulation?

The special and sustainable heat-insulating insulations from NovaNox® are manufactured completely without calcium, sodium or potassium. This completely prevents the formation of the chromates described above. However, this does not affect the versatility of the insulation. As a system supplier for mechanical engineering, plant construction and vehicle construction, NovaNox® GmbH & Co. KG is nevertheless able to supply the textile insulations individually adapted to your installation space situation. Furthermore, they are permanently heat-resistant up to 1100°C. They can even withstand short-term temperatures of up to 1300°C with ease. In addition, the technical insulations are non-flammable, have a vermiculite coating on both sides and are soft and flexible. As proof of our outstanding quality, our partner company works in accordance with the following standards:

  • Binding – DIN 61 101-1
  • Width – DIN EN 1772
  • Thickness – DIN EN ISO 5084 und DIN EN ISO 2286-3
  • Weight – DIN EN ISO 12127
  • Thread count – DIN EN 1049-2
  • Yarn freedom – DIN EN ISO 2060
  • Filament count – DIN 53 811
  • Maximum tensile strength – ISO 4606

Thanks to these recognized standards, you can be sure that your individual insulation is manufactured and processed to a high quality.
