For the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig, NovaNox® GmbH und Co. KG has produced customized insulation that increases occupational safety in order to continue to ensure efficient research.
With a total of 2000 employees, the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is one of the five largest institutes of its kind in the world and the largest in Europe. Since 1947, Braunschweig has been home to one of the two national metrology institutes, which deals with scientific and technical services on a daily basis. As the supreme authority of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), values such as reliability and absolute accuracy are among PTB's basic requirements. However, it is not unusual for new challenges to arise on a daily basis in individual sub-areas, which must be responded to quickly and flexibly.
For precisely this reason, a customized insulation system from NovaNox® GmbH und Co. KG was produced for an extremely complex PTB system so that reliability and accuracy can continue to be guaranteed.
The system is one of the PTB's high-temperature test benches, which is part of the calibration and flow measurement equipment. Gases with a maximum temperature of up to 600°C are measured here. The system is divided into three areas: Starting with the standard measuring device, continuing to the gas heating device and ending with the test chamber. Each section of the gas heating device had to be insulated precisely and individually.
The main focus in the production of insulation for the gas heating device was on two key aspects: Firstly, the safety of the researchers had to be guaranteed, and secondly, the insulation had to be able to withstand a temperature of 600 °C without compromising the measurement results. Another important aspect in PTB's decision to use NovaNox® insulation was the energy loss. This energy loss is significantly reduced by the insulation, which simultaneously saves costs and reduces CO₂ emissions. This aspect means that the textile insulation pays for itself within a very short time. Furthermore, individual parts of the system can now be flexibly dismantled and reassembled.
The measurements were carried out by qualified specialists. Planning and final assembly were also carried out to our complete satisfaction. Due to the high operating temperatures, 100% accuracy of fit is of great importance.
