Exhaust silencers reduce engine and exhaust noise. Both low and high frequency ranges can be attenuated. Various physical principles come into play here:

Absorption silencers work according to the so-called absorption principle. Sound waves are efficiently absorbed by internal damping material. This means that particularly high frequency ranges can be optimally attenuated. In particular, medium- and high-frequency noises in machines, systems and vehicles can be efficiently attenuated. Examples of systems in which absorption silencers are used are condensing boilers, fans or so-called CHP units.

Reflection silencers work according to the reflection principle. Sound waves collide in two chambers. The reflection weakens the sound energy generated. Reflection silencers are particularly suitable for reducing low frequencies and are also used, for example, in CHP units. However, the area of application tends to include engines without turbochargers or compressed air applications.

Combination silencers combine the advantages of absorption and reflection silencers. This is because the properties of the absorption and reflection principles are combined here. In exhaust technology, this provides the optimum combination for attenuating high and low frequencies. Consequently, exhaust noise can be efficiently reduced.

Areas of application of the NovaNox® silencers

Exhaust silencers reduce engine and exhaust noise in machines, systems and vehicle technology. The frequency ranges that need to be attenuated in exhaust technology vary depending on the engine and application. For this reason, we offer a wide range of silencer systems for every frequency range.

The most relevant silencer systems are divided into three types in exhaust technology. Reflection silencers are used in exhaust technology at low frequencies. At a high frequency spectrum, absorption silencers are used in exhaust technology. In exhaust technology, however, it is not uncommon for combination silencers to be used frequently, as they tolerate both high and low frequencies. Apart from noise reduction, a silencer must meet high requirements. After all, in exhaust technology, silencers are exposed to permanent weather conditions, hot exhaust gases, high pressure and strong vibrations on a daily basis.

Absorption silencers function in exhaust gas technology according to the absorption principle. Here, the sound waves are guided through a stainless steel sieve tube into the insulating material inside and absorbed, which is mainly the case in condensing boilers, fans or combined heat and power units (CHP). In this way, medium and higher frequencies are damped. This must also be the case under extreme conditions that prevail in the field of exhaust gas technology. In most cases, the absorption silencers are installed in combination with the reflection silencers to ensure optimum noise reduction.

Reflection silencer from NovaNox® / exhaust technology
In contrast to absorption silencers, reflection silencers function according to the reflection principle and dampen engine and exhaust noises in machines, systems and vehicle technology. Inside the reflective silencers there are usually two or more chambers of different sizes.
Incoming sound waves and reflected sound waves meet in these chambers. The sound energy is weakened by the reflection. Due to this mode of operation, reflection silencers in exhaust technology are used more for engines without turbochargers or compressed air applications. In exhaust technology, reflective silencers are mainly used to reduce low frequencies.

NovaNox® absorption silencers, reflection silencers and combination silencers are made of tested steel or stainless steel. If your combination or absorption silencers experience increased condensate build-up, we can optionally use non-hygroscopic insulation materials. Consequently, permanent condensate formation inside the silencers can be avoided. The performance of the silencers is maintained.
As a specialist welding company, we manufacture our products, adapted to the needs of our customers, using an automated or manual welding process. In both methods, we pay attention to the highest precision and quality. Thus, any silencers from small series to large series can be manufactured by our trained personnel and our modern equipment. Exhaust pipes are an important part of exhaust technology, as they are found in exhaust systems in machines, plants and in vehicle technology. Harmful exhaust gases are safely conducted from the combustion chamber of the engine through the exhaust system. In the process, the exhaust pipes are constantly exposed to vibrations, hot exhaust gases and pressure. These conditions in the field of exhaust technology result in permanent mechanical demands. Exhaust technology designs must be reliable and robust. Exhaust pipes in particular must always be reliable, whether onroad or offroad, so as not to endanger the environment or people.


Exhaust pipes bent
We manufacture bent exhaust pipes using the CNC bending process. The automated bending process ensures efficient production for diameters from 3 mm up to 120 mm. Particularly complex geometries in multiple bends can also be realized in the area of exhaust technology. The high degree of automation also offers fast throughput times and is therefore particularly suitable for medium and large series.


Pipe finishing
Due to our versatile tube end machining, we realize a quick and simple assembly for every installation situation. For joining, we offer beading according to DIN 71550 and DIN flanges, but also expansions and reductions according to your requirements. The pipe ends can be slotted or have threaded connections. Tapping screw connections as well as male and female couplings are also possible.


Surface treatment
Surface treatments help optimize the durability, safety and appearance of absorption silencers. Surface treatment ensures a durable corrosion-free, safe and solid surface of the exhaust technology constructions. Since we have our own powder coating and painting facility, surfaces can be represented in all RAL colors - quickly and to a high standard. To ensure optimum corrosion protection, we offer heat-resistant painting, galvanizing and powder coating as well as pickling and passivation.


Prototype and series construction<br/> We work closely with you in the development, planning and design of the constructions. Together we plan the design of the material and the manufacturing process. As a result, we already achieve a result in the prototype phase that is very close to series production.  This achieves the best results and keeps your time and cost planning on track.

With the results of the FAI, the manufacturing process is optimized for highest efficiency and profitability. We support you in noticeably shortening the introduction times and in successfully going into series production according to plan. This way you save your project budget and highest reliability.

For your piping, we will provide you with technical drawings in 2D (in dxf, dwg and pdf formats) and in 3D (in step format). Depending on your needs, we can prepare individual part drawings, assembly drawings, general drawings or assembly drawings for you. In addition, you will receive detailed technical documentation for review. Consequently, you will be given the opportunity to make any adjustments or express any special wishes prior to production, which will then be supplemented. It is important to us that you are on the safe side when the production line starts rolling.
